Nazir Kherani is a founder of 3E Nano and chief scientific advisor to 3E Nano and NxLite Corporation. He is a full professor with a dual appointment in the Departments of Electrical & Computer Engineering and Materials Science & Engineering at the University of Toronto, where he leads the Advanced Photonics-Photovoltaics & Devices Labs, pursuing research and development activities at the intersection of fundamental science and applied physics.

Dr. Kherani is triple graduate of the University of Toronto: B.A.Sc. (Hons) in Engineering Science (1982), M.A.Sc. in Nuclear Reactor Physics (1983), and Ph.D. in Solid State and Experimental Radiation Physics (1994). He has held various industry positions which include Senior Scientist-Engineer at the Research Division of Ontario Hydro / Ontario Power Generation, industrial research sabbaticals at Los Alamos National Labs USA and Institute for Plasma Physics (Kernforschungsanalage Jülich) Germany – from 1983 to 2002. He joined the University of Toronto as an Adjunct Professor in 1994, advancing to a full-time appointment in 2002 and promoted to the rank of full professor in 2014.

Dr. Kherani has co-authored more than 300 publications including ~20 issued/applied patents. He has trained over 200 researchers including ~50 master's students, 40 doctoral students, and 40 post-doctoral fellows and visiting researchers. He is a recipient of various awards including the Engineering Medal in Research and Development (Professional Engineers Ontario and Ontario Society of Professional Engineers); the Early Researcher Award (Ontario Innovation and Research); Lifetime Fellow of the American Physical Society (Industrial and Applied Physics) and Canadian Academy of Engineering; and Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada and the Royal Society of Arts.
